Strategy definition and execution in practice
Teknikum Group is one of the most significant European experts in polymer technology. The company’s solutions bring benefits to customers worldwide. Teknikum Group consists of six business units comprised of four subsidiaries: Finland, China, Hungary and Germany.
Teknikum was in the process of defining a new business strategy and wanted to assess its current capability to execute it. Teknikum hired Qentinel to evaluate the current state of its IT. Based on Qentinel’s findings Teknikum concluded that IT did not have the required capability to support its strategic objectives. Teknikum wanted Qentinel’s help to come up with a plan to improve IT’s capability.
Evaluating the main development areas
Together with the customer, Qentinel expanded the analysis to include the assessment of the key development needs of IT by interviewing Teknikum’s executive team and other key stakeholders. An IT strategy was defined based on the results. The key was to align the IT strategy with the business strategy. Overall the new IT strategy included the definition of the:
- Strategic objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Key development areas and development projects
- Transition & Target Enterprise Architecture
- Roadmap for strategy execution
- Role and responsibilities of Teknikum’s Chief Information Officer (CIO)
One of the key development projects was to renew Teknikum’s ERP. Qentinel helped Teknikum to execute the first stage, the ERP RFI process.
Tools to execute the plan
Teknikum received an IT strategy that supports the realization of the business strategy. The new strategy gives Teknikum a solid base for decision-making. It acts as a toolbox and a roadmap for Teknikum’s overall IT development. The prioritized action plan and suggested Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) help Teknikum to focus on right tasks in the right order. The ERP RFI gave Teknikum a very good basis to continue with the ERP renewal project.
